Parent Teacher Times for Tomorrow

Hi Everyone!!

The following sheet was sent home with the students today. We did the best we could to accommodate the times everyone requested. If your child is not listed in a time slot then we did not receive the form back from your child. If you were unable to send in the form and would still like to come tomorrow, please select one of the time slots and leave a comment on the blog to let us know when you'll be here! We are truly excited to meet with everyone and hope ALL parents are able to make it!

Best wishes,
Mrs. Esperon and Ms. Voigt

Jiji Math is here!

We've started to visit the Jiji penguin again. Please ask your child what he/she is learning in their Jiji math session.

Jiji is the penguin that guides students through visual math activities. It's a great source math to compliment our math classroom instruction.

Students: What did you learn in Jiji today?
Please leave us a comment and let us know.

Scholastic Book Orders

We have an account on Scholastic. You can order books directly on the website. It's great, easy and fast. So please take a look and add to your home library.

Rain School told as a Sound Story

Students loved using instruments from around the world during our reading of Rain School.

Our Goals for this Blog

1. We would like parents to have a window into our classroom. We want everyone to see the wonderful things that are happening in our classroom and in our school.

2. We would like students, families and friends to comment on our blog. We love comments and so do the students.

Class Dojo Incentives!

Last week we created an 'incentive chart' with different rewards for our hard-earned points.  The students were excited to be part of the decision process when picking their specific rewards and it was a joy to watch everyone work toward these fun choices!  On

Fridays we will be rewarding every student for his or her excellent achievements based on the chart below.

Class Expectations

Classroom Expectations

1. Listen to the person who is speaking.

2. Respect the space of others.

3. Be thoughtful of others.

4. Contribute and Participate.

5. Come prepared to class.

Snacks!

Last year, our entire school was fortunate enough to receive healthy snacks every day through a special grant.  It was great. Students were able to fuel up on fruits (strawberries, grapes, apples, etc.) and vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, etc.).

This year, our school has applied to this same grant. Today, September 30th, we received snacks through this grant again!
We are excited. Today's snacks were pineapples and carrots.

We know that everyone focuses better when they're able to have a healthy snack. It's hard to stay focused for 4 hours straight without eating. We'll be enjoying snack around 10:30 A.M. every morning.

Classdojo

Classdojo.com is an online behavior management system. Students are given points for positive behaviors such as doing homework and participating in class. Points are taken away for calling out, missing homework, etc.

At the end of the week, parents will receive a report via email. If an account has not been established on the website, we will send home a paper copy on Friday.

We recently discussed ways to use classdojo points in class. The students discussed possible incentives that they will be able to obtain using points they have earned in class.

We will post the options this week.

Homework

Students will have homework everyday.
The homework is to help them practice work we have done in class.

Reading
At this point in the year, students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes and log in everyday (including Saturday and Sunday).

Math
Math homework is usually in the form of a worksheet. The sheet is identical to the work given in class during the day. Students should be able to do this work independently.

Poetry
Each student has a yellow composition notebook. This notebook contains poems that we have read and discussed in class. We would like students to practice reading poem a night to an adult.

Please sign and date the poem that was read and we will give credit for the homework. Unsigned work will be considered as "no homework."

Word Study

Word work homework is done every night as follows:
Monday- 5 times each
Tuesday- Use each spelling word in a sentence.
Wednesday - Triangle words
Thursday-  abc order
Friday- Take home spelling test and have it signed by an adult. Write any word misspelled 5 times each.
