Dear Class 3-211 Families,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year at PS 142. I am delighted to have your child in my classroom this year. The children are going to have a full and exciting academic year , full of new learning experiences.
Essential to your child’s progress in school is your support and involvement. Therefore, I would like to briefly share with you the academic expectations and behavior standards for the new school year.
Our academic work will start at 8:20 AM each day. Therefore, I will pick students up from the cafeteria slightly before that time. It is extremely important that your child come ready to learn at that time. If your child would like to eat breakfast in school he/she must be in school between 7:45AM and 8:10 AM.
There will be a weekly homework sheet sent home on Mondays with your child’s work. There will be homework assigned Monday through Friday.
Throughout the week each child is expected to read books and practice math facts. I believe the best method for continuing progress in reading is to read. For this reason, I feel it is very important that you designate a special quiet place for your child to read each night. Students will typically have 4 homework assignments each night to reinforce the work done in class.
The students will be expected to follow a set of school/classroom rules. The rules will be discussed and reviewed the first month of school . Rewards are given to the students when they follow the rules (ClassDojo Points). Consequences will be enforced if a student chooses to break a rule. We will use ClassDojo.com to record our behavior and share that information with you.
All of these topics will be discussed in detail at our first Open School Night, Thursday, September 17, 2015, 5P.M. to 8PM Should you have any questions or concerns about the classroom standards or any future development, please send a note or email any time. I am a looking forward to the new school year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. L. Esperon
